Angela Smith
Mrs. North Dakota International 2008

About me!

WELCOME!  I am a wife and mother of 4. I have been married to the love of my life, Jared, since 1996 and we have 4 incredible and wonderful children, JT, Kymberlee, Christopher and AnneMarie.

I am a student, attempting to finish my BA in English... It is a work in progress that has been punctuated by children, moves and life in general.
I am a published poet. I have recently completed the text for 2 picture books and am presently sending them out to editors everywhere... my goal to get them published and into the hands of children eventually.   My other hobbies include tatting, quilting, reading and stamping.

On top of all that I am also a beauty queen. Look below for more on that!

I love meeting new people and helping others wherever and whenever I can. I believe that one can always learn something from the people that enter their lives... what can I learn from you?

Why pageantry...

I must admit I started out in pageantry for all the wrong reasons. When I first enterded my first pageant the Barron Area Farm and Feather Fest in 1992 it was all about me. I was new to the Barron Area and was looking for way to meet people, my grandpa suggested the pageant and I jumped on it.
I was bit by the bug as they say and when I learned that competing could help offset my college expenses I continued on to compete at the state level in different pageants. I was young and looking for ways to help myself get through college, pageantry provided those opportunities and helped me pay for my first year of college.
It also helped me find self confidence and become comfortable in my own skin.  Pageantry forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and made me work to be my very best! It continues to do both of these things and so much more.

When I returned to pageantry as an adult it was again about me. In 2005 I went to my Doctor and learned I weighed nearly 200 pounds. My doctor said drop the weight or don't live to see your kids raised. I needed motivation and knew pageantry or at least the swimsuit/fitness competition would motivate me.  I  have learned that pageantry is about SO much more then just me, although as you can see from the various pictures on my past titles page it did help me loose the weight, more than 80 pounds.  In many ways pageantry has saved my life and for that I will always be grateful.

Contrary to the way these last two paragraphs make me sound I have always been one to help others. I was taught my entire life that helping others is a gift that cost you little and gives so much. Pageantry allows me an outlet for that. I love the doors that are open and the people and causes I am able to help because of the titles I have been able to hold. I am grateful for the education that has been given and the awarenesses that have been raised because of the causes I have been able to work with and address as a title holder. I truly believe that it is blessing to help others and am grateful for every opportunity that is provided for me to be of service to those around me.

Most of all I am honored and thrilled to be able to promote my platform of Domestic Violence Awareness.
As a survivor of Domestic Violence I know first hand the importance of bringing America's best kept secret out into the open.

The icing on this fantastic cake are the PHENOMENAL women I have been able to meet and befriend because of my pageantry experiences. I am strengthened by their friendships and experiences and made better because they are in my life. What an AMAZING hobby!
